-r-1 A NEW shipping company, North Sea Ferries Ltd., has been formed by a consortium of SIX leading shipping companies to provide a daily ferry service meeting the special needs of exporters and transport operators between Hull and Rotterdam. Two 3,600-ton motor ships will provide the north's own " roll onfroll off" ferry service, starting in the autumn of 1965. Initially, the service is expected to be three times weekly. probably from Hull on Mondays. Wednesdays and Fridays, and from Rotterdam on Tuesdays. Thursdays and Saturdays. Early in 1966, when the second ship is delivered, the service will be daily except Sundays. Departure time from each port will be 6 p.m., arriving at 8 a.m. the following day. The ships will accommodate motor vehicles on two decks. and allow for axle loadings of up to 20 tons for tandem axles, 13 tons for single axles. The maximum capacity of each vessel will be either 65 lorries/trailers. plus 25 cars, or 200 cars, or any combination of the two. Electrical plugs will be provided for refrigerated vehicles, and compressed air will also be available at certain points on both vehicle carrying decks.
