VOR the past three years French
hauliers have made an average yearly contribution to driver education of £100,000. Last year more than £135,000 was raised by the taxe d'apprentissage levied on the 3,187 haulage firms which support the AFT trade education body.
There are already in existence 11 provincial schools for drivers, and five others are in the process of being formed at Bayeux, Dijon, Toulouse, Lyons and Monchy. Plans are also under way for
opening other institutions in the Rouen, Blois, Nantes. Chalon-sur-Marnc, Strasbourg, Besancon, Grenoble and Nice regions.
In addition to promoting studies leading to the Certificate of Commercial Aptitude (CAP), the AFT organization also runs short study groups for executives and proprietors of haulage concerns with a view to improving management techniques and increasing productivity in the industry.
