I N an effort to prevent any further accidents caused by high buses attempting to go under low bridges in the city, Stoke-on-Trent City Council is to discuss with officials of the Potteries Motor Traction Co. the installation of a radar-type electronic warning.
The Lord Mayor of Stoke, Aid. Joseph Hulme, said that a radar warning system at the Glebe Street Bridge was the only answer to prevent the recurrence of the recent crash when the roof of a doubledeck bus was torn off as it went under the bridge, injuring 17 passengers.
What was needed, he said, was an electronic beam across the road at the height of the bridge so that if any large bus or lorry driver forgot and tried to go under it, an elaborate alarm system would automatically operate.
