A DUNDEE operator, Allison's Transport (Contracts) Ltd., successfully applied for a new A licence for a Roadrailer on April 5. The amended normal user authorized "Goods collected and delivered within a radius of 25 miles of Dundee and of 25 miles of Glasgow and thence by road to Portobello to be railborne to and from London ".
Originally opposed by three private objectors and by BRS, only Atlas Express and a subsidiary maintained their objection.
Two customer witnesses claimed that the projected operation had a large potential and promised to use it.
The Scottish area manager of Atlas Express Deliveries Ltd., Mr. Rowe, said that they were giving a similar daily service to London, using a railborne container. He did not oppose the Roadrailer. as such, but sought assurances from Allisons that they would not compete with smalls traffic.
Granting the application, the Scottish deputy I.icensing Authority, Mr. L. A. Wells, said it was for a projected service which could not start if a grant were not Made. Whilst the evidence was not strong, he was satisfied there was a case for the new service.
