MR. S. W. NELSON, Western Licensing 0'1 Authority, was in top gear at Bristol on Monday when he disposed of six applications in two hours, Two of these were granted, two were refused in their absence and a fifth was •refused owing to lack of evidence, although unopposed.
The sixth case was that of Mr. R. Read of Longhope, Gloucester, who applied to add five vehicles to his fleet.
Mr. T. D. Corpe, for Mr. " Insatiable " Read, as Mr. Nelson jocularly referred to him, said his client had purchased the
transport business of Mr. T. Phillips, Newent, Glos, whose licences would be surrendered if the application was successful.
After a short adjournment. Mr. Corpe said they had been able to reach an agreement. The application, which was granted, was reduced to four vehicles.
