• One-man-operation is to be introduced in Northampton Corporation's bus fleet. This was announced at its transport committee meeting last week.
A report from the transport manager, Mr T. O'Donnell, said that union agreement had been reached. Ald J. Poole said that, despite recent controversy, it was nonsense to suggest that o-m-o was out of date. He urged that tickets should be sold in advance to help overcome loading problems.
ClIr T. Bailey, the committee's deputy chairman, said one-man buses would provide a breathing space which must be made use of "to change our fundamental outlook on transport". He said the council had to start to look on public transport as a service to be provided and not to ensure that it made a profit.
