THE SPYDER is claimed by its distributor, Spyder Sales and Service, at 53 Moorfield Road, Duxford, Cambridge, to be the most versatile forklift truck available today.
It is manufactured in the United States and weighs 1,226kg (2,700Ib) and can hitch itself to the rear of the lorry it has just loaded to be ready to unload at the destination.
The Spyder has a turning circle of 3.7m (12ft 2in) and an overall width of 2.44m (8ft); for arduous terrain four-wheel drive is an option.
The payload capacity is claimed to be over 1,590kg (3,5001b).
The structure of the Spyder utilises a welded square steel tubular frame which also holds the vehicle's hydraulic oil supply.
The unit is powered by a 17kW (23bhp) two-cylinder petrol engine (a diesel version is planned) which drives a variable displacement hydrostatic transmission pump.
