-I reference to the article on very in CM, June 25, I feel the reported comments by Veils on Avro could be a misleading. No mention is e of Category E members, are mainly manufacturers or suppliers of equipment. msequently, the number of -ators represented by Avro is ;iderably less than the total iber of members suggest. !gory E members naturally
t to sell their products — ;equently, as extra
;lation would augment s, they are very much in ,ur of it. Mr Hancock I note Dcates plating and testing — &able in theory but not ly practicable and Avro is on rrd as saying that they are nst it!
r Jackson is critical of the of technical progress and $ of equipment. Might I jest that most operators e a living to make and can , afford to provide
ipment compatible with the k available. The special plate ears to have merit but is er old hat by now. I first saw entioned in print in CM after 1978 Borden Conference -.;h was sponsored by you. should not forget that the ient trade plate, although it
s provide an economic and ient way of operating !very vehicles, is used by the motor trade for a multiplicity of other purposes.
Speaking as an operator as distinct from the three gentlemen mentioned, I don't think the present system is so bad. I have found it simple, cheap and workable.
Finally, if all the proposals mentioned were implemented I foresee costs being at least trebled.
Remember, the people who will have to pay are your readers — the haulier.
