ESPONSE has now come from interested bodies following invitations made to them by the Minister to comment on proposals for increasing goods vehicle speed limits to 40 m.p.h. (30 m.p.h. for vehicles towing drawbar trailers).
The Traders Road Transport Association has intimated that, in general, the proposals are welcomed by the Association, being in line with its own views of realistic speed limits. A reservation is made, however, regarding light vans, particularly those on car-type chw'sis, which it is considered could safely have a higher speed limit of, say, 50 m.p.h.
The British Road Federation expresses full support for the proposals, which, in the view of the Federation, should enable hauliers to further increase their service to the public.
It is understood that the Road Haulage Association has taken note of the Minister's proposals and has raised no objection to them.
