THE students like the job--and the money; and the company likes the students, and finds their help invaluable. What am I talking about? Bus conducting for Devon General Omnibus and Touring Co., who are one of the many operators faced with great fluctuations between traffic in the summer season and the rest of the year.

This month as traffic falls off again the students make their way back to university and training college after a "£100 holiday" —the difference being that they get the money, for about six weeks' hard work.

Devon General's comment to me was: "The students do a good job. With their help we manage to keep every available bus on the road to move the holiday crowds."

A very chummy sort of arrangement seems to have built up among the students who conduct. Michael Matthews, a third-year law student at Belfast, remarked: "Last year I worked on the buses at Bournemouth; this summer my friends decided to go to Torquay so I went with them."
