EVEN though proposed changes to the Construction Use Regulations which will allow single-deck buses and coaches up to 12 metres (39 ft. 4 in.) to be operated have only recently been put out, AEC Ltd. is to exhibit a new chassis at the Commercial Motor Show suitable for bodywork to this overall length dimension.
The chassis AEC will offer for 12 metre bodywork will be the Reliance 691 which has a wheel base of 20 ft. 6 in. and with overhangs o6 ft. 10 in. at the front and 10 ft. 8 in. at the rear measures just 38 ft. overall. Turning circle will be 78 ft. and the maximum designed gross weight will be 14 tons.
The engine used in the Reliance 691 is the AH 691 horizontal diesel engine develops 157 b.h.p. at 2,000 r.p.m. application. Transmission can be t either a four-speed Monocontrol automatic box or a six-speed ov syncromesh unit. Except for the engi design of the new model follows that existing Reliance models which are able for a maximum length of 11 (36 ft.), when the wheelbase is 18 f The Reliance 691 chosen for Earls will be an export vehicle with le controls since besides anticipating c British regulations, it meets requirem many overseas countries.
