A30 M.P.H. bonus dispute between the Tra
port and General Workers' Union and Ts Vale Transport Ltd. over the payment of a per cent bonus is still at a "delicate stage negotiation", I understand.
A sub-committee of the National Negoti ing Committee for the Road Haulage indus examined the issues recently after local nego. lions had failed.
Basing their case for the 15 per cent boi for 30 m.p.h. working by BRS and others on arbitrator's similar award to Frank Grow Ltd. drivers, the union claimed that most of vehicles of Tone Vale Transport and its s sidiary, Taunton Meat Haulage Ltd., were o 3 tons unladen weight and operated at 30 m.1 and were advantaged by the increased spi limit of 1957.
The company held that their principal tra in the south-west was eggs, which prior to 1 were carried in vehicles under 3 torts unlai weight at 30 m.p.h. When the speed limit raised, 10-tonners were introduced but earning capacity of the vehicles was redo, because the Egg Marketing Board required e to be carried in five layers instead of six.
The sub-committee accepted that the 11. operated at 30 m.p.h. but felt unable to evalu the benefit to the company on the evidence av able. They urged the parties to resume nego tions, and undertook to fix the bonus if the 1 sides could not agree.
