THE pay freeze may cause trouble in the
joint working of certain areas in and around Hull by Hull Corporation Transport Department, and East Yorkshire Motor Services Ltd.
On Sunday a driver refused to take a company bus out on a route previously operated exclusively by corporation vehicles. The driver concerned and his conductor were refused other work and sent home. Mr. C. R. H. Wreathall, East Yorkshire general manager, had no comment to make on what is in effect a complaint that company staff are working on the route for a lower wage than corporation employees following the introduction in 1965 of a corporation transport bonus scheme, which costs in a full year £37,000.
East Yorkshire staff claim that their weekly wage is from 5s. to 30s. below that which the corporation employees are receiving for exactly the same work. The men believe that it is intended to increase the number of company vehicles on the route concerned so that by Christmas they will be running most of the service.
