• Parcels carriers Sovereign Distribution and Atlas Express are merging with United Carriers in an internal shake-up of Bum! Transportation's UK operations. The three companies, all owned by Bunzl, will trade as United Carriers.
Depot closures will mean the loss of 330 jobs, but United Carriers' director Mike Darley says around 150 vacancies will be filled elsewhere.
Sovereign and Atlas were offering much the same service as United Carriers, bought by Bunzl three years ago, and from time to time the group has to "look at what slack we've got" and restructure its operation, according to Darley.
United Carriers will run 120 tractive units, 1,300 collection and delivery vehicles and 60 trailers.
