REVENUE of British Road Services was last year £33,37'7,000. This figure is contained in Transport Statistics No.13, issued by the British Transport Commission.

On January 1 the Road Haulage Executive had 67,289 employees• and 34,894 motor, vehicles. These consisted of 6,518 vehicles of up to 4 tons carrying capacity, 22,218 between 4 tons and 8 torts, and 6,158 over 8 tons. Of the total, 11,967 were . oilers and 22,927 were petrol vehicles. In addition, the Executive had 4,045 trailers, 2,753 •horse-drawn vehicles and -, 1,410 horses.

, In the four weeks ended January 1, the Executive's vehicles carried 3.316,000 tons of traffic. Of. the 46,167,000 .miles covered, 36,974,000 (80 per cent.) were loaded and 9,193,000 empty.

As reported in "The Commercial Motor" on January 20, the •B.T.C.'s revenue from provincial and Scottish road passenger transport in the past year was £35,134,000. Passenger, jour'rose 4.63 per cent.., above the figure for 1948, last year's total being 2,110,180,000.

As already announced in "The Commercial Motor," London Transport's revenue in the past year was £56,544,000, of which £31,288,000 was supplied by the buses and' coaches, and £10,916,000 by the trolleybuses and trams. Buses and coaches in London carried 2.744,018,000 passengers (an increase of 0.36 per cent.) and the trolleybuses and trams 1,182,367,000 passengers (a decrease of 1.96 per cent.).

Mileage run by buses and coaches increased by 0.71 per cent. to 312,983,000, and trolleybus and tram mileage declined by 1.05 per cent, to 111,856,000., London Transport has 99,623 employees engaged in its various undertakings_and Rini 7,515 buses and coaches, 1,762 tfolleybuses and . 826 trams.
