• Steyr of Austria has developed an automatic differential locking system for trucks.
The Automatic Drivetrain Management (ADM) system can detect slip at any of the vehicle's wheels and engages the cross or inter-axle diff-locks. When traction is regained the system will automatically release the diff-locks. ADM can also adjust gear and transfer box settings and engine performance.
Three ADM modules have been developed to suit a range
of applications. The transfer box module is designed for all-wheeldrive vehicles. It automatically engages the front axle when required and can engage or disengage front drive on the move.
The single-rear-axle module provides automatic differential locking for single drive axles; tandem driven axles can have automatic cross and inter-axle locks to suit conventional 6x4 and 8x4 tipper chassis. A combination of the modules can be used for 6x6 and 8x8s.
