• Swansea City Council is taking delivery of some 55 Ford Transits and 15 Escort and Fiesta vans in an unusual contract-hire agreement with Baker Contracts.
Baker has agreed to subcontract the maintenance of the vehicles back to the Council's central repair depot. This will secure the jobs of the staff at the Council's depot.
Paul Newberry, sales manager of Baker Contracts, says: "We are convinced that this solution could be applied to contracts with other local authorities."
