A CLAMP-DOWN on loading and unloading
goods during peak hours is planned in Newcastle upon Tyne. In 21 streets loading and unloading between 8 a.m. and 9.15 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays will be banned under a city council plan.
The city's highways and transport committee said in a report last week that the clamp-down is needed to keep traffic flowing and ensure maximum use of parking meters.
A public inquiry into objections was held in May and the Ministry of Transport inspector, Mr. W. Lawrence Allen, has now reported and said that the scheme should go ahead as proposed.
