An electronic ignition system announced by Mobelec is designed to last the life of the engine without the necessity of regular maintenance or replacement of parts. The system comprises an electronic power pack, a distributor, high-tension lead assembly and a hightension coil.
The power pack has a contactless trigger head designed to fit existing distribu
tors or to operate in conjunction with a Mobelec distributor. It features an electronic advanceand-retard system that has no wearing components and is claimed to have a high electrical efficiency as well as low power consumption. It is said to cope with a wide diversity of operating conditions such as extremely low temperatures and a low battery voltage during starting. A new type of high-tension coil, giving higher output with reduced power requirements, has been specifically designed for the system.
The coil is totally encapsulated which prevents failure through vibration and shock. The increased efficiency results in cool operation even at the highest spark rates thus obviating the use of oil cooling and possible oil leakage. High dielectric insulation and flashover barriers reduce high voltage breakdown during damp weather conditions.
