AGREEMENT with the British Transport Commission to withdraw their objection failed to secure the grant of a new B licence for Mr. H. W. Roberts, Corwen, on Tuesday. He had applied to the North Western Deputy Licensing Authority at Wrexham for permission to operate a 51-ton pole wagon on the haulage of round timber within a radius of 60 miles.
Mr. Lloyd Williams, for the applicant, said timber haulage required specialized equipment, and Mr. Roberts was the only operator in the area with four-wheel-drive vehicles. He already had three similar vehicles in use, two on contract and one on C licence. The B.T.C. had agreed to withdraw on the deletion of the Midlands from the radius, and on an undertaking that no trailers would be attached, except for the carriage of timber.
Mr. J. R. Lindsay, Deputy Licensing Authority, said there was nothing to justify 60 miles. Agreement with the objectors was not sufficient, and the hearing would be adjourned for the production of further evidence.
