95% OF MILK BY ROAD
THE vital role played by commercial vehicles in Canada was emphasized at a recent meeting of the Automotive Transport Association in QUebec by Mr. C. Archarnbault, the Association's publicity director.
In 1952, 766,724 vehicles were registered, compared with 37,000 in 1922. "These trucks carry 95 per cent, of the nation's milk to markets and• over 65 per cent. of the beef cattle," he said. He pointed out that 14,000 municipalities in the country and 50 per cent. of those in Quebec were more than five miles from the nearest railhead.
DURBAN TO BUILD BUS BODIES A BODYBUILDING shop has been inset up by Durban municipal transport undertaking, and the first of a number of single-deck bodies is to be built there almost entirely from materials made in South Africa. The light-alloy frame members are being fabricated by McKechnie Bros. (S.A.), Ltd., the interior panelling by Masonite (Africa), Ltd., and the outer panelling by the Aluminium Co. of South Africa, Ltd.
