THROUGH rail freight services for I small consignments to the Royal group of docks in London were introduced on Monday by the London Midland Region from Willesden, Watford, Northampton and Rugby. The services are designed to avoid the delays experienced by road operators which have led to goods missing ships. It is hoped shortly to extend the new services to include Tilbury docks. Export consignments will be collected during the day up to 4.30 p.m. in the areas affected and will arrive at the Victoria and Albert rail depot the next day, when they will be transferred to Port of London Authority wagons for placing alongside the ships.
The new arrangements are supplementary to the export express services for full loads, which will continue to operate both to London and all major ports in Britain.
