IN a report to Newcastle-on-Tyne CorI poration on transport developments in the city during the next five years, Mr. E S. Taylor, Newcastle's transport manager, said the main capital project was the fleet renewal programme. This included converting from trolleybuses to
motorbuses as well as the normal renewal of the motorbus fleet.
Capital expenditure for the period was estimated at film., and if a realistic financial policy was pursued it would he the aim of the undertaking to finance this from revenue without recourse to capital loans and thus effect a substantial saving in interest charges.
Midland Red Awards: At two recent functions safe-driving awards and awards of merit gained under the Road Operators' Safety Council were presented to Midland Red drivers. To date 21 company drivers have qualified for 30-year brooches and there are a number in the 29=year, 28-year and 27-year categories. Manyconductors and conductresses have also recei‘cci awards of merit.
