QUARRY OPERATORS warn that their haulage costs could rise by per tonne if a weight restriction is introduced in Wiltshire.
The county council is considering a restriction on the B3092 in Maiden Bradley but the Freight Transport and the Road Haulage Associations warn this is a key route for delivering aggregates from the nearby Mendip Hills.
1-TA regional policy manager Ian Gallagher says fewer than 20 roadside homes are affected by existing quarry t raffle: this number would increase by a factor of at least 10 if the traffic was diverted.

-I do have some sympathy with the residents but we've been going through there for 30 years," he says. 'If you cut off the route to Blandford Forum, the only alternative is out to Warminster and down the A350 which adds 10 to 12 miles.
"That would mean an extra I:1 per tonne on haulage rates for everything delivered south."
