A new method of renewing worn valve seatings has been developed by the Ubique Works, of Galgate Street, Old Trafford, Manchester, who specialize in welding repairs and in the fitting of Centricast cylinder liners.
After boring out the old valve seat, a new ring is pressed into position. Sufficient interference is allowed • to provide good contact between the ring and the cylinder block. Although this ensures adequate conductivity for heat from the seating, it is well known that something more is required to prevent the replacement ring from moving when in service.
For this purpose, three small holes are drilled at points archtud the circumference of the ring, so that each hole is partly in the old metal and partly in the new. 'These holes are then filled up by an electric-welding process, and the ring is thus locked firmly in position. Finally, the new seating is cut concentrically with the valve guide. The Ubique Works have had a considerable amount of experience in this class of work.
