AA FRAMELESS, pressurized hulk powder tanker—carrying a 19-ton payload within a g.t.w. of 28 tons—has been introduced to the 62-vehicle delivery fleet ()I The Ketton Portland Cement Co. Ltd.. of Ketton. Rutland.
Designed by Ketton in collaboration with the builders• of the Lank. Bonallack and Sons Ltd.. the vehicle meets the trend within the building industry for on-site pressurized deliveries in bulk. Fitted with air-slide and a Wellworthy W.S. blower, the tank discharges the load at 15 psi, at a rate of 1 ton per
minute when lifting the powdered cement 50 ft. into hoppers.
The carbon-arc welded alloy tank has been tested to twice the normal discharge pressure. Twin 4 in.-diameter outlets arc fitted at the centre of the semi-trailer to enable the load to be discharged from either or both sides.
The semi-trailer carries no landing gear hut there is a reinforced box at the front end of the tank to act as a jacking pad should it be necessary to remove the tractive unit.
The ERF 64GX tractive unit has the
Gardner 6LX engine, a six-speed overdrive gearbox and an Eaton 19800 twospeed rear axle. The tank has Crane Fruehauf running gear.
Overall size of the complete unit is 34 ft. 4 in. long by 7 ft. 10 in. wide, with an unladen height of 11 ft. The tank is 7 ft. 6 in. in diameter at the centre, tapering at both ends.
Ketton have found the vehicle's delivery cost per ton is equivalent to that of a rigid eight-wheeler. The tanker is finished in Ketton's new livery of buff and jaguar red.
