• First stage in the GLC's campaign to tackle the problem of lorries parking overnight in the street began on Monday with a pilot scheme in part of Tower Hamlets. The area involved is bounded on the north by Hackney Road, on the west by the City of London boundary (but excluding the Spitalfields Market area), on the south by East Smithfield and The Highway, and on the east by Cambridge Heath Road, Sidney Street, Sutton Street and King David Lane. Within this area all commercial vehicles over 2+ tons unladen weight will be forbidden to park between 6.30 pm and 8 am, seven nights a week.
