A HUGE JUMP jump in the number of prosecutions for vehicle excise duty dodgers has brought in millions of pounds, Transport Minister Lynda Chalker announced on Tuesday.
Intensive on-street campaigns were proving most effective.
Recovery of back duty, fines, and penalties is expected to be 50 per cent higher at £13.5m, More than 200,000 goods vehicles could have been dodging vehicle excise duty last year. As much as £174m was lost through tax evasion in 1982/3, with goods vehicles and motor cyclists the worst offenders, the Government said.
