construction has recently been placed in service by the Electrical Division of Castro! Industrial, Ltd., a. subsidiary of Castro% Ltd., and one of the major suppliers of transformer oils in this country.
The tank, which is of aluminium, has a capacity of 3,700 Imp, gal., is mounted on an E.R.F. 68G2, 18-ft.-wheelbase chassis, and was built by the Steel • Barrel Company, Ltd., Uxbridge, from aluminium •supplied by Alcan Industries. Ltd., who also provided technical advice on its manufacture.
The tanker is designed to carry electrical transformer oil, a product which must be kept perfectly clean, and which must not contain any free moisture— otherwise it will lose its insulating properties. Breathers prevent the oil being contaminated by impurities and moisture while it is in transit and ensure that it reaches the user in the same conditiOn as it left the supply depot. In addition, four conservator tanks are mountecLon the top of the mairi tank, one for each of the four equal compartments into which the main tank is divided, These conservator tanks allow the main compartments to be completely filled and prevent the possibility of air mixing with the oil, Each conservator tank is connected to a silica_gel breather unit (to ensure that only " dry " air is in contact with the oil) and is also providdd with vacuum and pressure relief valves.
After checking, unloading commences, during which the vacuum that is induced draws " dry " air through the silica gel breather unit and thus ensures that no moisture reaches the oil even while it is being discharged.
