Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ARISING out of the new wages under R.H.S, the Executive Council of Express Carriers has discussed the problems of Wage increases for other employees to whom R.H.8 does not apply. It was felt that the Conference could evolve some policy which could be circulated as advice to members. The subject is now being investigated by the wages committee under the! chairmanship of Mr. D. E. Richardson.

NO RESUMPTION OF DRIVING TESTS

tion by Mr. Viant, last week, Col. Llewellin said that whilst he wa,s aware of the deplorable increase in road accidents he regretted that driving tests cold not be resumed at present, because sufficient qualified examiners were not available. Special , arrangements, however, had be made for testing drivers who suffered from disabilities and for tests ordered by a Court.

• RESTRICTION ON ENGAGEMENT OF WORKER

WEare informed, that the C.M.U.A. has been in communication with the Minister of Labour in connection with the responsibilities of persons engaged in the road-transport industry under the Undertakings (Restriction on Engagement) Order, 1940, which provides that an employer in the generalengineering industry must not seek to engage any worker for any such undertaking, except by notifying to an

emplbyment exchange particUlars of the vacancy to be filled and by engaging a worker submitted by the exchange or other office appointed by the Minister. The Minister has replied that the maintenance and repair of commercialmotor vehicles is considered to •come within the-definition given in the Order. When an undertaking or any part of it comes within the' scope of the Order, the restriction applies to all workers concerned, except' managers, salesmen, general clerks and domestic workers. .
