• One of our drivers was out on the road checking a vehicle, which had trade plates, for a mechanical defect. He called at his house before returning to the workshop. He parked the vehicle in his backyard off the road and was followed into the yard by the police and issued with a ticket for not wearing a seat-belt. The driver said he was exempt because he was on trade plates but the police said he was wrong.
The next day the police came to the workshop and told the driver that he was being reported for mis-use of trade plates by using the vehicle to go home. The driver insisted that he was checking the vehicle for mechanical defects.
What is the law on these points ?
