Don’t increase PCN levels during Olympics, says FTA

THE FREIGHT TRANSPORT Association (FTA) has made a last-ditch plea to the Mayor of London’s ofice to abolish plans to raise penalty charge notice (PCN) levels on roads just off the Olympic Route Network (ORN).
In a letter to Boris Johnson’s director of transport, Isabel Dedring, the FTA says it recognises the essential role the ORN will play in the success of the Olympic Games. However, extending the £200 ORN PCN level to roads off the ORN will “diminish [its] importance” .
FTA head of policy for London, Natalie Chapman, says: “CVs will receive some PCNs during the Olympics as a result of a more constrained road network. We will do our best to minimise this, but we need a sensible enforcement process to ensure the Olympic legacy for business is not a mailbag of parking ines.” Despite almost 70% of respondents to London Councils’ consultation being against any increase in PCNs at Games time, London Councils is to proceed with the increase.
However, the decision has to irst be approved by the Mayor of London, before passing to the secretary of state for transport for inal approval.
