• At a London Press demonstration this week Kingsley and Keith (Chemicals) Ltd, of Suffolk House. George Street, Croydon. CR9 9ER. introduced a new Belgian chemical—Kelate--to the UK market. The material is a rust converter. claimed to change the composition of rust into an insoluble, stable and smooth protective coating which will accept any known type of priming paint.
Kelate can be painted over a whole surface of which only parts are rusty, when it will activate only on the rusty spots. The residue of the liquid can be sponged off with cold water, leaving the surface ready for painting.
The price is £5 per gallon in its undiluted form but one gallon will cover an area of 1000 sq.ft. which works out at 1.2d per square foot. The maker says that the material can be sprayed by an airless-type gun but, because of the added penetration obtained, brush work is preferred.
