THE changes in administration at Standard-Triumph, Ltd., would have no effect on Albion Motors, Ltd., or on Leyland itself. Sir Henry Spurrier, Leyland managing director, said this last week. He was paying a visit to the Albion plant, where a new development for gearbox assembly and gear machining is almost completed.
"We feel," he said, " that more diversification is needed at StandardTriumph, and accordingly we want to try to make use of Standard-Triumph products in our Leyland and Albion factories. This should benefit Standard, where the work is extremely seasonal."
Sir Henry said that it might not be widely known that Standard-International produced a diesel engine. This engine had been used originally for Standard's Ferguson tractor interests, which have since been disposed of. Standard, however, still produced this engine, which had not been sold to Massey-Ferguson.
He added: "We may develop this diesel engine for use in Leyland and Albion production.
