In many quarters the opinion is held that rearmament may cause curtailment of activities in the export market. In this connection, the report _of Rootes, Ltd., for 1936-37 is most interesting. Certainly this enterprising concern has not neglected its oppor tunities. The total export business done showed an increase of 21.9 per cent, over the preceding season, and orders Carried forward to the present season equal 24 • per cent of those received in the immediate previous period. Commer sales were particularly good, representing an increase of 111 per cent. , Much of the success is due to the maintenance of representatives with offices in South Africa, India, Australasia, Europe and the Far East. In addition, the company • kas its own subsidiary in the Argentine. •
