The ban will take effect from Wednesday September 12. It will cover an area bounded by but not including — the A13 the eastern Borough boundary, the London to Tilbury railway line and Bridge Road, Broadway and Ferry Lane.
Lorries travelling to and from the Ferry Lane Industrial Area will be directed via Dovers Corner roundabout on the A13 along Bridge Road, Broadway and Ferry Lane.
Councillor David Forster, chairman of Havering Council's development and transportation committee commented: "This is good news for the people of Rainham. For a long while heavy lorries have been passing through residential areas to the detriment of the environment. Now this ban will help to improve the area and traffic situation considerably by the reduction of noise and fumes from lorries and their general environmental intrusion."
The ban, which has been authorised by the Greater London Council, applies to lorries of 7.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight and above. Lorries will still be allowed into the area covered by the ban to load or unload.
