SUGGESTIONS that only rear-view mirrors should be used as a guide by drivers reversing their vehicles in the tests of the Lorry Driver of the Year competition, and that a "mirrors-only" reversing test should be included in the national finals, were made at a meeting of the national organizing committee in Coventry on Monday. These points will come up for consideration again on July 16.
It was confirmed that the national finals on September 8 will be held at the Standard-Triumph works at Coventry. Vehicles for the final run-off will be Leylands, and the awards will be presented by Mr. Stanley Markland, deputy chairman of Leyland Motor Corporation and managing director of StandardTriumph and Albion.
Whether there should be a limit to the number of awards a driver can win was another topic discussed and this, too, will come up again in July.
