KIEW proposals by Blackpool Corpora tion to run a stage service might easily develop into an • unauthorizell excursion, Mr. Frank Briggs, general manager of W. C. Standerwick, Ltd., told the North Western Traffic Commissioners at Blackpool on Tuesday. He was objecting to an application by the Corporation to operate a circular service from Talbot Road bus station, via the promenade and Stanley Park. The charge for the full journey would be ts. 6d., it would be of 45-minute duration, and was to be operated throughout the year.
Mr. P. Simpson, transport officer of the Corporation, said that it was impossible to envisage the number of passengers who would use the service. They wanted to use three vehicles and he did not think this would add greatly to the present traffic congestion. He agreed that no private excursion operators were allowed to pick-up passengers on the promenade.
No public evidence was to be called. but Mr. Simpson said that their other circular tours were very popular.
In evidence Mr. Briggs pointed out that Standerwick operated 15 local excursions with a minimum fare of 2s. Their vehicles were not loaded to capacity and in 1960 the traffic had decreased by " 8.2 per cent.
.The chairman– of the Commissioners, Mr. F. Williamson, said he would in-pect the route involved before giving any decision.
