• Home catalogue retailer Littlewoods has confirmed that it is talking to rival companies about merging their home delivery operations.
Littlewoods' subsidiary Business Express operates a fleet of 2,000 vans and employs 4,000 people. More than £7m is being spent this year on improving its efficiency with a high-tech 'track and trace" system.
A spokeswoman for Littlewoods says: "We are talking to others within the industry and beyond about what the opportunities are," One name to be Finked with the merger proposal is German group Otto Versand, which currently owns the Grattans and Freemans catalogues.
