of the Ulster Transport Authority's freight business may begin operations within the next three months. It will not have to wait for the setting up of the new Transport Commission, but instead will go into partnership with U.T.A. interests in the interim.
Managing director of the new company—Northern Ireland Carriers Ltd.— Mr. T. H. Thornton, said that negotiations are at "a very advanced stage'. The new firm would not take over the bulk of the 11.T,A.'s freight business in one transaction. "Instead, it will be a gradual process", he added.
