MAN and ERF will both spotlight top-of-the-range, flagship tractors at the CV Show in March.
The current MAN TGA Excalibur, created by MAN's UK team at Swindon and based on the biggest XXL high-roof cab, will be superseded by the German manufacturer's latest 5 Star cab which was launched last September at the RAI truck show (CM 30 October 2003). It will be available on two and three-axle tractors powered by either the 530 or 480hp versions of MAN's latest Euro-3 common-rail D28 12.8-litre straight-six. A Tipmatic auto box is standard, along with alloy wheels, full air-kit and a raft of "luxury" interior fittings.
As expected, ERF has finally been given the largest XXL cab, which will be offered on the ECT as the Olympic Compared with the current XL ECT cab it adds around 75kg to the kerbweight in return for more room inside.
Olympic tractors will be offered with the 420hp Cummins ISMe or, for the first time, the 480hp D28 diesel Up until now the only true high-roof ECT available to UK operators has been the Kuda conversion based on the standard-height XL cabin.
Other MAN/ERF debutantes at Birmingham include a lightweight 4x2 TGA Distribution tractor specifically for bulk operators. It will have engine ratings from 310-410hp but will be restricted to the slightly narrower MAL/LX cabs.
MAN marketing dime tor David Burke says that this lightweight spec will ultimately be extended to the ECT MAN will also unveil a TGAbased three-axle rigid for heavy construction or 44-tonne drawbar work. But a UK-spec eight-legger to replace the current F2000 model is still some way off
