ONE OF THE after-burns of the collapse of the partnership between Van Hool McArdle and Coras lom pair Eireann, the Irish semi-state owned transport company, surfaced in the Belgian courts last week.
Van Hool lost an 1R£2.6m against CIE for the alleged cancellation of an order for 118 single-deck Citybuses after the collapse of the joint venture between Van Hool McArdle (Van Hod's Irish subsidiary) and CIE for custom-built buses. The claim included loss of profit and design charges for a three-bus range of express coach, city bus and double-decker.
CIE argued successfully that it had not placed any order for the single-deckers, the matter having stalled in the course of negotiations between the two companies. Van Hool has been given until the end of this month to lodge an appeal.
