A PROTOTYPE of a hydraulic lorry rt loader has been produced by Abelson and Co. (Engineers) Ltd., Sheldon, Birmingham, 6. It is designed for handling laden trolleys and the complete loader unit can be attached to the side or rear of the platform, self-sealing hydraulic coupling points being available at both positions on the vehicle to which the prototype has been fitted. Lifting capacity is 2-3 cwt. but larger models of 5-7 cwt. and 10 cwt. will be produced in due course.
The lifting unit which incorporates the hydraulic ram, pivots on its mounting
bracket and this enables the cantilevered elevat:ng platform to be swung over the lorry deck when it is in the raised position to transfer the laden trolley to the platform, The loader is relatively -light and can be transferred easily by one man between the alternative mounting positions on the vehicle and, because it is easily detachable, a single loader can be employed for a number of vehicles.
