ANEW stoplight switch which gives early warning of the drivers' intention to slow down or stop, is being produced by Mr. Clive Leedam, Corngreaves House, Corngreaves Road, Cradley Heath, Staffs. The type now available is suitable for Austin A40 and A70 commercial vehicles, but switches can be made to special order for fleet operators.
The device is known as the Pedalite and 'consists of a brake-pedal rubber cover in which is housed the switch.‘ So soon as the foot touches the pedal, and before the pedal arm is depressed, the stoplight is illuminated and remains so while pressure is maintained.
Mr. Leedam claims that by using his device, the following driver receives warning of the slowing-down of the
vehicle ahead, second earlier than would otherwise be the case. If the second driver were travelling at 30 m.p.h., he would thus have an extra 26 ft, 6 ins. in which to take appropriate action.
The Pedalite costs 7s. 6d. and is said not to flicker when traversing rough roads. Moreover, the stoplight will not remain " permanently " illuminated.
