THIS. caravan transporter (below) operated by Cheshire Caravan Transport, of Winsford, is built on a Bedford VAL twin-steer p.s.v. chassis chosen for its chassis length, low frame height and manteuvrability.
The design was developed jointly by the operator and Chester Engineering Co. Ltd., Bedford main dealers, who supplied it, The reinforced plastics cab and metalskirted body were built by Bowyer Bros., of Congteton.
The platform body, which has a central channel, is ramped at the rear, and loose ramps are carried for winch loading the 'vans. Up to three 9/10-ft. caravans can be carried, with another up to 22 ft. 114 in. long towed behind. The cab has extensive sound insulation and is equipped with twin heaters and a radio.
The vehicle is 36 ft. long and weighs 4 tons 12 cwt. unladen. it has a Leyland 0.400 engine and a two-speed Bedford rear axe.
