PAA NEW version of the Pacesaver body has been introduced by Strachans (Coachbuilders) Ltd. for mounting on the Bedford VAM chassis (described in The Commercial Motor, June 18). Named the Pacesaver Mk. II, it is based on the standard lightweight, zinc-coated, steel-framed, fully trussed bodywork produced by this firm. The body is 32 ft. 2 in. long by 8 ft. 2+ in. wide, and has an overall height of 10 ft. unladen, with an interior height of 6 ft. 3 in.
The Pacesaver II is produced in three basic forms: a straight utility personnel carrier for works transport, a stage carriage bus or an express service vehicle. Standard seating capacity is 46, but in latter form the seating capacity is reduced to 42. An interesting standard variation to the body is a front-entrance, central-exit 43-seat version for city or urban passenger duties.
Designed for a minimum trouble-free life of 15 years, the bodywork is treated to a thermal coating of preservative in addition to the original zinc coating. The complete body is double skinned, and a 14in. thick coating of glass-fibre is applied between the inner and outer skins of the roof for extra insulation. The standard body weighs 2 tons 5 cwt.
