AN order for 50 7.4-litre oil engines has been placed with Leyland Motors, Ltd., by Ansair Pty., Ltd., a well-known Australian coach operating concern, which is building large luxury coaches for inter-city work. Both British and American proprietary components will be incorporated in the vehicle, which will be known as the Ansair Flxible Clipper.
Overall length will be at leaSt 33 ft., and a speed Of 50 .m.p.h; is required for the long distanees between the termini. The specification includes a Spicer fourspeed gearbox With remote control, and a Kirkstall hyroid rear axle with a 4.5 to 1 ratio.
PrototYpes of the .engine: which have been shipped to Australia, differ from standard in that they have flexible link mountingsat front and rear. The engines also have a special flywheel to take a Spicer 14zinAiameter clutch. Twin oil-bath air filters, and a Clayton compresSor of 1 cubic ft: capacity, are
