you wouldn't believe that county and borough councils are under spending restraints, judging by the bewildering array of equipment at this year's Wastes Management Exhibition. Nearly 300 stands, five rows deep in places, made this the IWM's biggest show to date, stretching nearly a half of a mile along Paignton Sands.
Recycling waste remains flavour of the month and the recycling bodybuilders could choose from an abundance of 6x2 link-steered rigids, including examples from Dennis, ERF and Renault.
Many refuse trucks are multi-purpose, but with such a huge choice on display you could sympathise with fleet engineers and buyers who had their work cut out deciding where the best deals lay. Some of the chassis builders were serving notice of developments in hand.
