ati illions were ati illions were understandably moved by the D-Day commemoration ceremonies in Normandy earlier this month. As well as being a poignant occasion in which old soldiers remembered fallen comrades it gave the younger generation a chance to learn about the debt they owe to those who defeated the Nazis half a century ago.
For many it was also a chance to show off the types of vehicles that accompanied the troops during Europe's liberation.
Our man in Normandy found these particular examples in St Marie Eglise where he managed to avoid some of the massive congestion and delay that attended the day's ceremonies.
One unfortunate American paratrooper got delayed in the town even longer than the call of duty normally demands when his wayward parachute landed him on the church tower. Luckily it was his parachute that got spiked rather than a sensitive part of his anatomy.
