• T&N, parent of leading friction material manufacturer Ferodo, predicts a decline in the market for replacement CV brake linings of up to 45%.
The market hit 28 million axle reline sets in 1993, says T&N, hut will shrink to 21 million by the year 2000. This is due to longer lasting linings and the increased use of disc brakes, While the trailer lining sectorwill rim lain almost static, demand for relines on trucks below 16 tonnes is expected to reduce by 45%. Relines on larger trucks are expected to decline by only 30% because the extra power demands more of the brakes.
T4iNS Jean-Pascal Laffaille also predicts that the share of the aftermarket controlled by the vehicle manufacturers will grow from its current 26% due to "a violent push from the vehicle manufacturers."
